Maintaining the structural integrity and safety of highways and expressways is a continuous challenge for municipal authorities and private contractors worldwide. Historically, the removal of road markings, curing compounds, and accumulated rubber relied heavily on abrasive mechanical methods such as milling, grinding, or sandblasting. While effective to a degree, these traditional techniques often result in severe micro-cracking, aggregate exposure, and irreversible damage to the underlying asphalt or concrete substrate.
Enter High Pressure Water Jetting (HPWJ) and Ultra-High Pressure (UHP) water blasting technologies. Utilizing water pressurized between 10,000 PSI and an astounding 40,000 PSI, this technology has fundamentally transformed road maintenance. By delivering a concentrated, high-velocity stream of pure water, it obliterates surface contaminants, thermoplastic paints, and cold spray lines without compromising the pavement's macro-texture.
In the current industrial landscape, the adoption of high-pressure water jetting for highways and expressways is experiencing exponential growth. Driven by stringent environmental regulations and the urgent need for sustainable infrastructure management, governments across North America, Europe, and Asia are mandating eco-friendly road maintenance solutions. Unlike sandblasting, which generates hazardous silica dust, or chemical stripping, which introduces toxic runoff into local water tables, water jetting is inherently clean.
Commercially, the ROI (Return on Investment) for specialized water jetting vehicles has proven highly lucrative for contractors. Modern UHP trucks are equipped with advanced vacuum recovery systems that simultaneously blast the surface and suction up the resulting wastewater and debris. This closed-loop system leaves the highway almost instantly dry and ready for immediate remarking or reopening to traffic, drastically reducing costly lane closure times and minimizing traffic disruption on busy expressways.
Our parent factory LXD was founded in 2003, bringing over 24 years of industry experience. The Heavsty factory, established in 2020, features an intelligent workshop, advanced lathes, and a professional R&D team. Regarding the road marking and maintenance field, we are the largest manufacturer in China. With a dedicated service and R&D team of 40 people and a factory size exceeding 20,000 square meters, we deliver millimeter precision.
Heavsty has quickly gained a firm foothold in the field of road and traffic safety, becoming a highly influential solution provider by virtue of its keen market sense and excellent strategic layout. We mainly offer one-stop services from research & design, production, and 100% inspection to shipment.
The versatility of high-pressure water jetting extends far beyond simple cleaning. By precisely calibrating the pressure, flow rate, and nozzle configuration, engineers can tailor the equipment for specific, highly demanding tasks on critical infrastructure. Let's explore the deepest application scenarios:
Expressways frequently undergo lane reconfigurations due to expansion projects or traffic flow optimization. Removing old thermoplastic, epoxy, or MMA (Methyl Methacrylate) lines is notoriously difficult. High-pressure water jetting penetrates the porous surface of the asphalt, lifting the adhesive polymers from the aggregate without grinding down the road surface. This prevents the "ghost line" effect—where old ground-down lines confuse autonomous vehicle sensors and human drivers during heavy rain or nighttime driving.
Friction is the most critical safety factor on high-speed corridors and airport runways. Over time, heavy braking leaves vulcanized rubber deposits that fill the micro-texture of the pavement, drastically reducing skid resistance (especially in wet conditions). UHP water jetting shears this rubber buildup away at a molecular level, restoring the pavement's original friction coefficient and significantly reducing hydroplaning risks.
Before applying new overlays, seal coats, or high-friction surface treatments (HFST), the existing substrate must be properly prepared. Water jetting acts as the ultimate surface profiler. It removes laitance, oil, grease, and weak concrete layers, exposing a clean, rough aggregate surface. This mechanical tooth ensures a superior, long-lasting bond for new resins and MMA adhesives, preventing premature delamination and extending the lifespan of the expressway.
The future of High Pressure Water Jetting for Highways is intrinsically linked with Artificial Intelligence and automation. Modern jetting vehicles are evolving into smart robots. We are seeing the integration of AI-driven vision systems that scan the road surface in real-time, automatically adjusting water pressure and nozzle rotation speed based on the thickness of the paint or the density of the rubber. This not only saves immense amounts of water and fuel but guarantees zero damage to the road. Furthermore, predictive maintenance algorithms now alert operators to pump wear and nozzle degradation before a failure occurs on the job site.
